July 6, 13, 20, 27 6pm-8pm
Learn about color and shape through oil pastels! In this course, students will concentrate on a sustained still life through a process-over-product technique. You will learn about lines and composition, while also experimenting with the unique medium of oil pastels. Think of oil pastels as a halfway point between painting and drawing! Elements of both techniques will be explored to create a finished piece.
Students will meet every week for 4 weeks to work on the same still life. Each participant is encouraged to bring one object to contribute to the scene.
Caitlyn Dolphin, the instructor, is a Denver-based painter whose work captures everyday moments through the lens of domestic life, forging a connection between artist and audience through familiar objects and scenes.
Her professional experience includes teaching local painting classes and assisting public artist David Ocelotl Garcia. Her work has been featured in regional and national exhibitions, with an upcoming inclusion in the 2026 Mountain Plains Contemporary Art Biennial in Salina, Kansas.
